How to Protect Your Practise from Festive Break-Ins
The season of goodwill may be here but for many businesses, large and small, it is a time when they are more vulnerable to burglary and theft.
The increase in business at this time of year results in more stock being delivered and therefore makes your premises more appealing to criminals whether they are shoplifters or night-time burglars.
To help protect your business in the run up to Christmas and over the festive holiday, we’ve put together a quick checklist of things to consider:
- Make sure your intruder alarm works and the service agreement is up to date.
- Protect your stock, by keeping expensive items like designer frames in locked display cabinets.
- Ensure all windows and doors, particularly those at the rear of the premises are locked securely at all times.
- Keep a log or sign-in sheet for all visitors other than customers who have been in and out of the premises.
- Make sure that no personal valuables are left lying around or on show.
- Consider installing CCTV both internally and externally – when the shop is busy it is difficult for staff to keep an eye on all the customers, but clearly displayed cameras inside the shop will help to deter shoplifters. External cameras, that operate day and night, should be directed onto delivery entrances and stock room windows, which are the usual target for night-time burglars.
- Be strict on who you employ – at this time of year most businesses take on seasonal staff to cope with the increase in trade. The recruitment process should be as rigorous as with any permanent employee, as internal employee theft costs businesses thousands of pounds every year.
- Make sure you have the right insurance!
