Independent Opticians Voted Best in UK Survey

New research released by Which? has revealed that independent opticians came top when it came to buying glasses.

The survey revealed huge differences in opinion between eye care at major high street brands, supermarkets and independent chains.

The research was based on the feedback of 5,409 Which? Members in March 2014, where customers rated their experiences based on value for money, price and product quality.

Independent opticians topped the charts with a huge satisfaction rate of 88%, as customers praised the practises for staff skill, communication and availability of convenient appointments. It was also found that local practises were more likely to fix a problem at no extra cost and provide clients with a better quality of customer service.

Other top scorers included wholesale co operative Costco, who came in second with 86% and Specsavers with a satisfaction rate of 72%.

It was bad news for well-known chains such as Scrivens and Optical Express who were rated poorly by their customers in terms of value for money and price.

One Scrivens customer said: ‘I was “sold” far too much, persuaded to buy glasses when I was looking for contact lenses and only then given vouchers which would’ve discounted my glasses.’

Supermarket giant Tesco also lagged behind with the Opticians failing to impress with its customer service.

Editor of Which?, Richard Headland, said: ‘Not all optician stores are the same and we found big differences between them. The best one for you will depend on what you are looking for – whether it is value for money or the quality of the overall experience.’

We know that while running a successful opticians practice can be rewarding, it can also be stressful and challenging at times, and when it comes to giving customers the best experience possible in your practise, it is essential that you are covered.

While you may take every precaution to ensure that your clients are satisfied with their service, if something does go wrong it can end up being extremely costly for your business if they pursue a claim.
