Opticians Offers Reward After Suffering Break In
At Infocus Opticians Insurance we often talk to clients looking to ensure their practise and business equipment is protected against theft or a potential break in.
In recent news, it was reported on Optician Online that the owner of an optician’s practise in Enfield, London was appealing for information after his practise was broken into.
The dispensing optician & practise owner Garry Kousoulou offered a £1,000 rewards for information after burglars broke into his practise and stole £2,500 worth of sunglasses.
He said: ‘I’ve taken everything into my own hands.’
‘Because the Chubb lock was not secured and a recently-tested alarm did not activate, the practice has been advised it had not kept to the terms of its insurance policy, but since offering the reward members of the community have tried to help out with leads. This included a complete stranger in the park who asked if they had found the culprit yet.’
When your optician’s practise is affected by circumstances outside your control such as a break in, office insurance should give you the peace of mind that your practise computers, equipment, furniture and documents will all be protected. However, as Garry found out, if you are affected by theft your cover will be subject to ‘minimum security conditions’ and if you don’t have the correctly specified locking devices, your claim may be refused.
So what are minimum security conditions exactly?
In summary, they relate to the types of doors, shutters and windows you have at your premises and the types of locks in use to secure them as potential entry points for burglars.
Each insurer has a different set of minimum security conditions for each of it’s policies, but your policy document/schedule should define exactly what your insurers standards are. The conditions may depend on the location of your practise, the type of property you are in, and the breadth and depth of the policy.
While there is no foolproof way of protecting your practise from a break in, Infocus Opticians Insurance gives you the peace of mind you need should you find yourself facing the prospect of a claim.
