UK Business Safety Week 7 -13 September 2015
UK Business Safety Week, taking place from 7th – 13th September, builds upon the goals set out in CFOA’s Business Safety Strategy.
The aim is to help businesses –large or small
- reduce their risk of fire,
- protect their staff, buildings and resources.
The week focuses on promoting to your staff;
- fire risk awareness
- fire safety advice
This year’s campaign message is:- keep it SIMPLE and safe
Store stock safely: keep corridors, stairs and exits clear. Ensure all new stock is unpacked and stored correctly as soon after delivery as possible
Identify alarm points so you can warn others. Ensure all new staff know where the fire alarms are
Make sure doors are closed to stop fires from spreading. This is particularly important when the premises are locked up at the end of the working day.
Place things that catch fire away from things that cause fire. Opticians need to be particularly careful storing lenses away from strong light sources
Let someone know if you spot fire safety problems. Check that all your staff know they should advise you of any potential hazards immediately.
Ensure everyone knows what to do if a fire alarm sounds. Have regular practise fire drills to ensure your staff know what to do in an emergency.
Now is a great time to make sure everyone in your business knows SIMPLE fire safety measures to protect themselves, their colleagues, your customers, and ultimately your business.
While you may try your hardest to make sure that your practise limits the risk of fire you can’t always prevent everything. With Infocus Opticians Insurance you can be assured that if the worst does happen, you’ll be covered for the accidental damage after a fire.
